How hinterland electrical work is different
Hinterland properties come with problems you don't see as often in coastal suburbs:
- Long distances between buildings. Sheds, studios, granny flats and pumps can be a long way from the main board. Cable has to be sized for the distance so equipment gets the voltage it needs.
- More moisture. The range is wetter and mistier, so outdoor fittings, junction boxes and shed wiring need to be rated and sealed for it.
- Storms and trees. Falling branches and lightning cause more outages and damage here. Lines up to your house are Energex's responsibility (13 19 62). Everything on your side of the connection is where we come in.
- Rodents and wildlife. Sheds and roof spaces in bushland attract rats and possums, which chew through cable.
- Older housing. Older homes can have older switchboards and wiring that are worth assessing.
